Cutline: Nancy Richardson, left, of Frankfort, Maine waits for her grandson Michael Adams to graduate during the 43rd Daniel Webster commencement exercises while Cindy Zito of Searsport, Maine walks away Saturday at Daniel Webster College. About 160 students graduated.
Tech Specs: f/2.8, 1/30, ISO 800, 45mm
Thoughts: When I was shooting graduation at Daniel Webster College this weekend I spotted this scene. No, not very newspapery journalismy approach, but I never turn away an opportunity even if it looks less than traditional. I suppose when there are so many “rules” to follow it’s always nice to break away from the norm. Inspired by the work of Matt Mallams of over exposed white backdrops, this situation yielded the perfect opportunity. The proper newspaper exposure for this situation was about ISO 800 at 2.8 at about 100th of a second but I wanted to open up to overexpose the white tent. This might not fly in the daily print edition but that is why blogs were born. Enjoy.
