Note: This is the fifth posting in an ongoing series of photographs I will be publishing throughout 2009. All of the “Backyard Wonders” photographs will be taken in my own back yard. My challenge is to see how many different kinds of landscape and wildlife photos I can come up with by the end of the year. Enjoy!

Every spring I look forward to the first flowers emerging up through the leaves coating our perennial gardens. This Flatbush Crocus plant pierced right through the thick oak leaves covering it - a sign that I better get out there soon and remove the leaves from the bark mulch below.
