Note: This is the third posting in an ongoing series of photographs I will be publishing throughout 2009. All of the “Backyard Wonders” photographs in this series will be taken in my own back yard. My challenge is to see how many different kinds of landscape and wildlife photos I can come up with by the end of the year. Enjoy!

I love the shades of blue on the bluejay’s feathers, as it sits atop of a snowbank in my yard. I often wonder why these birds’ colors don’t blend in to the surroundings, like the owls, chick-a-dees, and nuthatches.

The Great Backyard Bird Count took place this past weekend around the country. Check out their site to see some interesting bird pictures and information for bird watchers.
