“Backyard Wonders” - My photography challenge for 2009

Filed under General, Scenic Photographs, backyard Wonders by bob hammerstrom at 1:50 pm

As a photographer, just how far do you travel to take scenic pictures? In 2009, I will be challenging myself to find scenic pictures in my own backyard. The photographs will be published in this blog under the category “Backyard Wonders.” You’ll also be able to view this series of pictures on my Flickr page.

This is the view of my backyard out our dining room window.

My goal is to capture at least one nice image each week from my 2-acre parcel of woods and lawn in Auburn, N.H. Anything is fair game. I’ll be armed with a Canon EOS-1D, Mark III, and a variety of lenses. I may even shoot some video to post here as well.

This barred owl sat for a morning in a maple tree, just outside our dining room window. It was in the top-center of the picture above.

If you look closely at the top image, you’ll notice the group of branches on the maple tree in the top-center of the photo. That’s how close this creature was when I photographed it last winter. The chances of this happening again for me this year is pretty small, but with some imagination, and a little luck, I’ll come up with some unique photos to show you.
