NH considers closing state parks to save money
Filed under Uncategorized by andrew wolfe at 7:23 am
State officials are still contemplating closing some state parks, on account of they can’t afford to keep running them under New Hampshire’s ridiculous system of making parks fend for themselves financially, my colleague Kevin Landrigan reports.
Words can not capture my contempt and dismay that they would seriously consider this proposal. It’s understandable if the state can’t staff every park, or maintain facilities, given the legislature’s refusal to budget for such niceties, but abandoning park land would be a travesty.
I would urge anyone who cares about such things to contact your elected officials and protest. You can find them here. It probably wouldn’t hurt to contact the group overseeing the process, too.
If you think parks should be self-funded, how about a federal tax on gasoline and oil, to pay for the United States’ policies in the Middle East? Another two or three dollars per gallon ought to cover it.
