Trail Expo - Sunday May 17 at Hampshire Hills - 12:00 to 5:00 PM.
FREE ADMISSION FOR THE PUBLIC
NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED FOR ATTENDEES.
We have presentations for young and old alike!
· Fritz Wetherbee, whom we all see nightly on “NH Chronicle” on WMUR TV will be at the expo giving a talk. We think he will be talking about a Haunting in Monson - we are not sure, but we don’t care. We know that he will amuse, entertain and educate us! www.fritzwetherbee.com
· Charles Martin, Author of “New Hampshire Rail-Trails” will give a talk on NH Rail-Trails. His book, which melds railroad history with trail descriptions and first-class maps, resulted from his extensive survey of abandoned New Hampshire railroad lines and the trails built on them. His talk will help you enjoy and appreciate this unique New Hampshire resource. www.nhrailtrails.org/
· Keith Trexler, Board Member of the Andres Institute of Art will give an overview of Andres’ 140-acre sculpture park and hiking trails. The talk will include an in-depth look at how sculptures are created on the mountain, by looking at three works sculpted in stone, steel and acrylic cement. www.andresinstitute.org
· Everyone loves owls! Yet, how many of us have ever seen a live owl up close?
“Who’s Watching You? Owls of the World” will introduce you to the owls of New England and beyond. Naturalist Marcia Wilson and photographer Mark Wilson will share the field marks, signs and naturalist’s skills that you can use to find wild owls without disturbing them, while introducing you to six live owls up close. Everyone is treated to a hooting lesson, as well as tips on how to attract and protect owls near you. www.eyesonowls.com
· There are more species of ducks in the area than you can imagine. Ray Jackson of the Granite State Chapter of Delta Waterfowl will give a slide presentation to help you indentify the many beautiful ducks in the Milford area.
· Bill Fitzpatrick and his Search Dog, Merrie will give a presentation on Lost….But Found, Safe and Sound. He will show a 12-minute video produced by Anne Tubiolo of the National Park Service Interpretive Design Center at Harpers Ferry. The video shows children, ages 4-12, what to do if they become lost in remote areas such as parks or forests. It follows the actions and thinking of 7-year-old Kelly, who is lost for a night in the woods but is found safely the next day because she knew what to do. www.anpr.org/lost/htm
