Paddling on the Nissitissit River
Filed under watersport by andrew wolfe at 8:36 am
Besides being fun to say and spell, the Nissitissit is one of the nicest navigable rivers around… it smells and looks clean, it’s narrow and windy and it flows through some lovely parts of our region (including Lake Potanipo, and few conservation areas).
The Brookline Conservation Committee is organizing a group outing on what is reputed to be one of the finest stretches (and I’ve never done it, so I can’t disagree): from behind the fire station, just downstream of Lake Potanipo to the junction of Worcester Road and W. Hollis Road in Hollis (AKA Pepperell Road, AKA Brookline Road).
I have no contact info for the event, excepting Buddy’s email address: cld5771@yahoo.com
Here’s the skinny:
The trip starts at the Brookline Fire Station, 9 a.m. on May 23.
BYO boat, etc., and plan to help shuttle fellow paddlers back to cars at the take-out.
Helpers have been clearing some of the downed trees to make the trip a little smoother, and there may be some folks on hand who can recall when these trips were an annual event.
