Speaking, as I was, of N. Nipmuck, here's the application, courtesy of race honcho James Campiformio: The race is out-and-back, 16 miles, and does NOT cover the same section of trail as Nipmuck Marathon, he writes.

So far as I can tell, the first trail race anywhere in New England this spring will take place on Saturday, March 24. The good news is it's right here in Nashua. The bad news (for me) is that it's a wee little 5K.  

UPDATE 3/20 - worse news... it's cancelled!

Former Moose Miler Mike Amarello writes that his 3C Race Productions will be putting on some races in Mine Falls Park and Beaver Brook this upcoming season: Luv2Run Nashua 5K on 3/24/07
Moose On The Loose 10 Mile Trail Race & Relay on 8/19/07
Jack London 10K Trail Race on 11/3/07 (in conjunction with Mark Walsh) and lastly, a 5K in Beaver Brook in Hollis on 7/29.  "This race has a $36 entry fee - but every runner leaves with a custom fitted pair of Loco Sports running shoes," he writes.   "Unfortunately, the Moose Milers Trail Race Series that I put on for the  past 3 years on Monday nights might not return in 2007 unless someone steps up to take it over." He mentioned something about a baby, and workload, you know the story... we can only do so much in this life. I'll soon be writing more about races I've run and others I hope to do this season... stay tuned.

I’m not much of a joiner, myself, but I appreciate the heck out of running clubs. Without them, who would organize the races?
Last week saw some big news on the local running club scene: the PR Moose Milers have merged with the Gate City Striders   Here’s the press release: GCS-Merger-PRelease-R1 (3).doc.
Mainly, the bigger, combined club hopes to field a stronger team for the regional USATF events and other races, Striders President Skip Cleaver said.
“For the regular membership, the slower, mid-pack or medium runners, there will be no impact at all, except they will have team members competing at a much higher level,” Cleaver said. “That is a morale issue, as well as a pride issue.”
GCS will still host their signature events, including the Applefest half-marathon, Fitness U program and Pack Monadnock Moutain Race, and I was especially happy to hear that the Moose Milers contingent will keep running trail races in Mine Falls Park. I’ve yet to do one, and it’d be a shame to miss racing on my home trails.
