What makes the rocks ring?

Andrew | 06 May, 2008 08:53 | (121)

Apparently no one really knows why many of the rocks in a glacial boulder field in eastern Pennsylvania chime like bells if you whack them with a hammer.

Another way to fry your brain

It hardly comes as a shock to hear that wearing your iPod outdoors during a thunderstorm is a bad idea.

Best Steve Blunt record yet!

Andrew | 10 May, 2007 15:30 | (138)

I got a chance to preview Steve Blunt's new CD last night, and I can assure fans that it sounds great despite my small contribution.

getting air

Steve and I have been rehearsing for his upcoming show March 25 at Nashua High South, and we did a live spot on WERS's "The Playground" last Sunday to promote it.

better late than never

Andrew | 21 February, 2007 13:01 | (133)

I finally got around to posting pix of the gig at Tupelo. Steve's fans will want to catch the next show, March 25 at Nashua High South, even at risk of still more cowbell...

exlore the space

My boy and I got up to Pittsfield this weekend to check out Rocking Horse Studio, where Steve is recording his new CD (look for it this summer). Steve humored me with a simple bass drum part (four beats, four measures), which he could have done himself, and enlisted us and owner/engineer Brian Coombs for some backing vocals. It was a blast! The studio looks and sounds fabulous. At risk of going way overboard with SNL references... I am not worthy.

the weird turn pro

We rocked the house at Tupelo today! It looked like a near sell-out crowd, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves... not least of all me.

More cowbell

Andrew | 30 January, 2007 08:14 | (311)

This has naught to do with running, but I’ve got to plug Steve’s gig at Tupelo this Saturday morning.

I’ll be up there behind him, on backing vocals, cowbell, tambourine and drum. Yikes. As Steve is fond of saying, that’s what happens when you hang out with a children’s musician. Suffice to say, my musical aptitude and experience are minimal. It seems to work all right, so long as we keep my parts very simple. Steve is an experienced professional with a substantial fan base, and puts on a heck of a good show. With luck I won’t create any unintended comic relief.

Rock out

I never knew I wanted an iPod until I got one. My folks bought it for me for Christmas, along with a nice new Brooks jacket with a pocket made to carry it. Thanks again, mom and dad!

I spent the next two days obsessively loading CDs into iTunes. I’d burned the best songs from my whole collection, and the silly little sliver wasn’t even one third full.
Running with the iPod was a revelation.
