Exploration

I wrote before about good places to bicycle off road in Nashua (and elsewhere), but I was holding out.

I didn’t want to share word of my favorite local spot, both for fear of exposing it to overuse and because I wasn’t sure it was a legit, public trail… it seemed too good to be true. I'd stumbled on the trails out behind Lovewell Pond just riding and exploring a couple years back. I’ve since learned that ‘Spaghetti Bowl’ and other trails are part of Yudicky park (despite being the other side of Main Dunstable Road) were in fact designed and built by volunteers with the area chapters of the New England Mountain Bike Association. I am so impressed with their handiwork that I decided to join up myself.

I still worry about this favorite spot, and I’m not going to write much more about it. The information is online, for those who seek it. It’s tight and twisty single track, challenging without being too scary. It’s obvious from the condition of the trail that it’s used by people who ride with respect. That bit is important. Flesh and bone will mend, and bikes can be repaired, but terrain is tough to restore.

The same crew has built some similarly twisty bits hidden amongst the dirt bike/ ATV trails in Yudicky, making that area all the more worth checking out. Those trails also connect to the north end of the Nashua River bike trail, which in turn will take you to a whole slew of off road areas between Nashua and Groton... seek and ye shall find them. I've been riding the rail trail on and off since before it was paved, yet I found a new (to me) section just the other night, with over a mile of tasty trails that reached some familiar spots. I'm not telling where; go find it for yourself!

Share and enjoy.
