Groton Town Forest Trail RaceAndrew | 16 October, 2007 15:23 | (278)
One of the finest trail races of the year is coming right on up this Sunday, and it's just a short hop over the state line. Sorry for the short notice, but I've been trying not to think about races of late, since I'm not running (on the DL; long, sad story; enough said). I ran the Groton Town Forest Trail Race last year, though, and it was a blast. It was my second trail race ever, and I look forward to doing it again... next year. It's a fun course, including both single track and paths wide enough to drive a truck down, and nothing too treacherous under foot. There are plenty of climbs, some of them steep, but none of them long, and the 9.5 mile distance is short enough to keep a brisk pace (brisk and all such things being relative). There's also a short course (3.4 miles), for those inclined to keep it brief, and between the two, it drew a pretty good crowd. Race-day registration runs just $20, and the start isn't until 12:30 p.m., blissfully late for those of us who enjoy sleeping to excess on weekends.
