Wapack ResultsAndrew | 16 May, 2007 14:51 | (150)
The Wapack Trail race results are up on the race website, cleverly disguised in a link labled "racers 2007."
Congratulations to everyone who even attempted this race. There is a thread talking about the race, which includes some photos of the trail, on the Cool Running trail/ultra running forum. The stats speak volumes: 24 people started at 5 a.m. with the intent of running 50 miles. Five of them did so, including Norm Sheppard, 49, of New Ipswich, with a time of 15 hours and 37 minutes. Another 7 runners finished the 42 mile, end to end to end course, and the rest fell short of that. I imagine many of them finished the 21 mile end-to-end trail, which is an accomplishment in itself, though all 23 people who set out to do it managed to finish. The marathon wasn't as popular: four people started and finished. Extra big congratulations to Timothy Roy, 42, of Manchester, who finished first of the 50 milers, with a time of 11 hours and one minute; top 42 miler Tom Parent, 30, of Cambridge, Mass., with a time of 10:26; David Herr, 42, of Canaan, Vt., was the top marathoner, with a time of 4:40; and Zen Canady, 23, of Providence, RI, was the fastest end-to-ender, in 4 hours flat. I'm planning to do the original Wapack race, 18 miles out-and-back from New Ipswich to Watatic on Sept. 2.
