Monday! Monday! Monday!Andrew | 21 April, 2007 08:39 | (234)
The Gate City Striders have put together a 10-week series of 5K and 5 mile races in Mine Falls Park, starting June 11.
Racers will run every Monday evening from June 11 to Aug. 27, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Stellos Stadium parking lot (exit 5W off Route 3). Here's the dope on the series: Mine Falls Summer Race Series.pdf And here is the race application: Race Application.pdf I imagine that organizing a race is a lot of work; I can't imagine putting together a series of ten! It's very cool to see a five-mile course laid out in Mine Falls Park. I've always wondered about the mileage there, and always guessed that a loop of the main trails (a sort of figure eight) on both sides of the highway comes out to about five miles. This course manages five miles without the millyard loop: Course Maps.pdf These should be some super fast races (for those who, unlike me, are up to running super fast), what with the shorter distances and wide trails. They also would make a great introduction to racing. GCS is a big club, and well-known for running great races, so I'm sure these will draw a decent crowd. Add commentAbout Mesearcharchives
