Serious runners tend to view food as fuel, and have all sorts of theories as to which foods "work" best for converting calories to energy. Not me. So far as I'm concerned, the best thing about running a lot is that you can eat darn near anything, and as much as you want... within reason. I don't like to eat much before I run, but I can't run on empty, either. I'm lucky that I happen to like whole grains and vegetables. I enjoy french fries and cheese burgers, too, just not so frequently. My current favorite fuel is a quick concoction of my own invention. It's a sort of gorp spread: I mix peanut butter (the kind made with nothing but peanuts), a little tahini, a lot of honey, raisins, whole peanuts, and cinnamon. Stir it all up, and it's great on whole wheat bread or just off a spoon. It's high calorie, more or less healthy and entirely delicious... just the thing for a snack before a good long run. What's your favorite fuel food? Drop me a comment.
Mmm, sounds good. Mix in some chocolate chips, and you've got a winner! Oh, how I miss my runners diet - all you can eat pasta, breakfast for dinner (or in addition to dinner!) - Oh, and miss my knees too... Posted by: scott | March 07, 2007, 16:01
A handful of Cheerios or Puffins (Barbara's Bakery Cereal – not the bird) and a few almonds or walnuts and COFFEE!
Scott blogs about bread and beer?! My top two favorite food groups!
Good thing you're a runner with carbs in their purest form (bread, and liquid bread) being so high on your list... Posted by: scott | March 09, 2007, 17:32Add commentAbout Mesearcharchives
