Presi part threeAndrew | 21 February, 2007 06:33 | (154)
I’d always thought it would be cool be on the top of a mountain in time to see the sunrise. I was right. The eastern sky was showing just the faintest hint of dawn when we reached the top of Madison, and the clouds (as you can see in the photo at the top of this blog) were quite dramatic. We didn’t linger, though. We had miles to go, and a rough schedule in mind, so as to finish before dark that evening. We tiptoed past Madison Hut, where we saw only one person out and about. It was early yet. I see a Mount Quincy on my map, but I have no memory of any peak between Madison and Adams. We took the side trails to the tops of both Adams and Jefferson. At 9:18 a.m., Michelle snapped a photo of her wristwatch in front of a trail sign somewhere in Mt. Jefferson’s neighborhood. If I’d refrained from mugging in front of it, perhaps enough of the sign would be visible to figure out exactly where we were at that time. I think it was around Edmands Col, north of Jefferson’s summit. Any one who recognizes this sign, and knows it's location, please let me know:
Here's another shot from somewhere in the northern Presi range... I believe it's Mount Adams, but I could be wrong:
