stretch

I’ve met plenty of runners who don’t stretch. Some admit it sheepishly, knowing they probably should work on flexibility. Others sincerely believe they don’t need to stretch.

I do, and I recently found a Web site that seems to have a great deal of information on sports injuries and how to handle them. There are all sorts of specific injuries that commonly plague runners, and this site has articles on most of them: knee pain caused by tight ITB; back or butt pain caused by the piriformis; the dreaded plantar-fasciitis; and my own nemesis, the iliopsoas tendonitis. There’s also a good article on healing injured muscles.

Obviously, the company is trying to sell their handbook, software and DVDs. I can't vouch for their products, but the Web site has an awful lot of good, free information.

Share and enjoy.

I always stretch AFTER running. I think it helps prevent injury and keeps me flexible. I’m putting together a Stretching Slide Show once the rain stops. Have a great weekend!

Yeah, me too. I start slow to warm up, then stretch after... also on days off. I stretch most anywhere... at work, waiting in lines... people do look at me funny but so what? I recently discovered that my desk here at work is the perfect height (mid thigh) to hold my knee for a nice piriformis stretch.

I think yoga moves help in flexibility. I do them at work. Since I sit most of the working day, these breaks are all the more important, especially after a long run.
