It’s not unusual for both major parties to do a mass mailing to the faithful, giving them instructions on how they could vote by absentee ballot if they choose to.

  The new wrinkle with the NH Republican State Committee was turning the public service into a hit mail piece.

   “Vote to protect your family from higher taxes,” the mailer cries.

    It goes on to list the GOP talking points about Democratic votes in Congress for higher taxes and against oil and gas subsidies that GOP leaders claim will raise gas prices.

    While a third of the vote may be cast nationally before Nov. 4 thanks to voting by mail and other state laws, New Hampshire doesn’t allow anyone to vote absentee by convenience but the mailing does give both parties a sign of voter intensity for this election.
