Godmother of NH conservatives backs Clegg

Republican congressional candidate Robert Clegg of Hudson picked up a major, conservative endorsement today from Gale Thomson, the widow of former Gov. Meldrim Thomson.
“Low taxes are the result of low spending. That was my husband’s mantra. Bob Clegg has worked for the last 20 years at the local and state level with exactly that philosophy and that’s why I am supporting his candidacy,’’ Thomson said in a statement.
This cushions the blow a bit for Clegg who saw the Union-Leader of New Hampshire endorsement go to former Nashua radio talk show host and columnist Jennifer Horn.
From education funding to health insurance mandates, Clegg had frequently been off the UL’s editorial reservation over his 16 year career in the Legislature.
The paper’s backing of Horn is a huge boost for a first-time candidate for any office.
