Clegg and Horn cash in

Hudson Republican Sen. Robert Clegg doubled his ``investment'' in his Second Congressional District campaign during the second quarter.

Meanwhile, former talk show host and GOP primary rival Jennifer Horn already offered the money isn't everything defense for why Clegg had eight times in the bank than Horn has.

Clegg did raise $60,000 from individual donors but kicked in another $150,000 of his own money. That's $253,000 of his own cash which is much more than the $156,000 that's in his campaign bank account right now.

Meanwhile, Horn raised $41,000 from others and gave her campaign $20,000 more. This makes $40,000 that has come from the Horn household since the race began.

Her campaign has $21,000 left but aides insist much of their money came in late this quarter and they've now built a solid fundraising network that can help going forward.

They also note that since the campaign began, Horn has gotten more of her money from individuals than Clegg has.

“We have more donations from more contributors than any other Republican in the race.  But the money raised does not tell the whole story,'' Horn said in her statement.

``We continue to build a superior grassroots organization that will elect me to Congress and elect both John Sununu and John McCain.  The other GOP candidates cannot say that.”

Sure but wherever it comes from, the name of the game for insiders at the end of the day is always going to be cash on hand.
