A hero's hero

Republican candidate John McCain returned to another page out of his successful, 2000 New Hampshire primary winning playbook with a late mailing to GOP and independent households.

The mailing celebrates the right to vote with the emotional story of Mike Christian, McCain's cellmate at the ``Hanoi Hilton,'' the Vietnam prison of war camp where McCain lived for more than five years.

Christian got beaten savagely by his captors by stitching together a makeshift American flag and having stitched inside his prison shirt.

``We must never forget those Americans, who with their courage, with their sacrifice, and with their lives, have protected our right to vote,'' McCain concluded.
