For GOP, new poll says it ain't the economy, stupid
KevinLandrigan | 05 November, 2007 18:12 | (242)
The economy doesn't even rank in the top three of issues for likely, Republican primary voters according to a statewide poll WBZ-TV and Franklin Pierce University released tonight.
Democratic primary voters view Hillary Rodham Clinton overwhelmingly as the candidate who will win the nomination while Mitt Romney has become the clear front-runner in the first-in-the-nation primary state.
The war in Iraq is the top issue for both groups though many more Democratic voters (76 percent) chose it as one of the top three than did Republicans (46 percent).
For Republicans, immigration (36 percent), health care (30 percent) and taxes (28 percent) all rank as more important to them than the economy (24 percent).
The economy is third highest (25 percent) for Democrats with health care (63 percent) a close second to Iraq on the issue agenda.
Asked who would win their primary, 71 percent of Democrats say it will be Clinton to 8 percent for Barack Obama and 6 percent for John Edwards.
Republican primary voters view Romney as the most likely winner here (37 percent) followed closely by Rudy Giuliani (31 percent) with John McCain (6 percent) a distant third.
Both voting groups support a gradual withdrawl of troops from Iraq, more intensely for Democrats (69 percent) than Republicans (48 percent).
Among Democrats, the second most popular option (26 percent) is a rapid withdrawal while Republicans chose leaving current troop levels (29 percent) far above getting out right away (2 percent).
The telephone poll of 401 likely voters Nov. 1-4 has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.

While this article first appeared Thursday, October 04, 2007 in Analecta Politica (www.howellunc.townhall.com) I am compelled to run it again, with minor changes. After all Paragraph 3, Article 6 of the U.S. Constitution means nothing to the MSM, or to Chris Matthews, or to the pathetic Keith Olbermann, or to Romney’s rivals.
Paragraph 3, Article 6 of the U.S. Constitution reads, “. . . all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.” - emphasis added.
The Speech, the Speech! Mr. Romney, My Kingdom for the Speech! Thursday, October 04, 2007
Whew, let’s all just calm down. There is no reason for Romney’s “JFK” religion speech. Not yet.
While liberal pundits, the media, and a few Giulianiacs (read Novak) in New York are fixated on Romney’s religion, very few national evangelical leaders oppose Romney on religious grounds. For obvious reasons Catholic and Jewish leaders are rather adamant that there be no religious issue concerning Romney and the 2008 presidential race.
The loudest objections come from the left. Jacob Weisberg, editor of Slate, said, "Romney's religion will become an issue with moderate and secular voters - and rightly so." His justification comes from a rather strained reasoning that objecting to one’s “religious beliefs is not the same thing as prejudice based on religious heritage . . .”
What? Late last year Romney met with the prominent evangelical leaders. Oh, to have been a fly on that wall! From the few remarks made by some of the attendees, that meeting must have gone quite well.
Says Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, "Evangelicals know that they're not electing a theologian in chief, but a commander in chief. If they agree with Romney on social issues, his Mormonism won't be a hindrance . . ." And Jerry Falwell, who has often spoken in unflattering terms about Mormons said, "There's no question that there are strong feelings about Mormonism. But we're not electing a Sunday school teacher; we're electing a president. I do not believe his church affiliation will hinder his being a viable candidate among evangelicals."
So just who are these 24 percent of Americans (not 29 percent as reported by Novak.) who would not vote for a Mormon? see
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21036143/site/newsweek/
Well, certainly many are liberal and/or secular. In the same poll 14 percent said they would not vote for a woman, 64 percent said no to an Atheist. Even more telling is what Novak did not reveal.
In the same poll 68 percent of Americans said they had a favorable opinion of Mitt Romney while only 13 percent did not. Gee, I wonder what Hillary’s numbers would be.
So everybody, just take a deep breath. After Mitt has secured the nomination there will be plenty of time for The Speech.
Hillary should hear my complaint

Wrongs at the NH VA hospital
NH Veterans Council and committee, governor of NH and President of U.S.

Wrongs! We are talking illegal acts to intentionally harm a 100% disabled Veteran that you NH Rep A Baldasaro and the NH Veteran’s committee are well aware of. Because of a Traumatic Brain injury on active duty I lost my complete memory to this day of any part of my life prior to the Marine Corps. Because of an Admin Error I was sent back to active duty. I did 31 months overseas and received two more life disabling injuries during separate combat support missions. I did eight convoys as an American Advisor to deliver surplus supplies to friendly camps deep in the jungle. My first kill was with a bayonet to get my M-16 back and escape. It is not only wrong but an illegal act for any government official or employee to stop a disabled Veteran’s medical care for political self gain. That is what NH and the VA Director Mark Levenston did to me. This is a formal complaint and statement.
Hillary boost on TV adds about helping people with medical care. Eisenberg went to a hospital to ask for help. The system drove him to commit a crime to be recognized and now the system degrades this person that asked for help. The news reporters called my house to ask my wife if this was me in Rochester. I have not violated one law but the NH government is using the system to break me. I am a disabled Veteran. The news censors the truth to embellish the government claim that I am unstable and need to be locked up. NH Congress woman used a VA doctor Biswas to files a commitment order to lock me in the funny house to stop my letter to the editor. Biswas order was with out merit. This NH congress woman filed false police reports to get me arrested. Then the NH VA director of Veterans health care stops my VA medical care for injuries received in the line of duty. These are illegal acts against the peace and dignity of the United States. Imagine going six months with no health care. Imagine being ostracized in a society that you have volunteered every day to help others and now I am considered a leopard. There is no correcting a VA or any government system that uses illegal acts to harm citizens that legally attempt to expose the wrongs in government. I just hope the wrongs are corrected before you allow this to happen to another disabled veteran. The main culprit is news media censorship and biased reporting. This is an official letter sent to NH Rep Al Baldasaro, DAV, VFW, American Legion, NH governor Lynch and many more including the news. How many will have the ethical responsibility to print the truth. Do you realize that the NH State police Dover police and Lee police refuse to allow me to file a complaint. Do you know why I can put my name, address and phone # because the truth is a powerful weapon. Print the Truth and help the U.S. continue. Do you know why suicide looks so inviting to Returning Veterans?
