Pour l’amour de nourriture

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

The owners of Hot Rize Cafe have brought their popular bagels and more to Greystone Plaza in Nashua under a different name: La Javanaise. The cafe opened on February 26th, and the atmosphere is inspired by the owner’s time in Paris when he was in his early 20’s. The chic, yet casual cafe is serving up locally brewed coffee, espresso, bagels, paninis, grilled flatbreads, and many more health conscious, mouth-watering treats. I have always been a big fan of Hot Rize, and am excited to try their new venture. Anyone tried this place out yet?

Somerset Plaza’s hidden gem

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Olivia’s Pizza, located in the Somerset Plaza in Nashua, is one of those strip mall hidden gems. The pizzeria’s food can be smelt from anywhere in the parking lot, with its mouth-watering aromas sweeping over every person that gets out of their cars. The joint offers a variety of specialty pizzas, including Eggplant, Jalapeno Peppers and Gyro, as well as the usual salads, pastas, calzones and hot & cold subs. I called in my take-out order at Olivia’s the other night for Antipasto Salad ($6.25) and a small side of Garlic Bread with Cheese ($3.00), to balance out the vegetables from the salad of course. I was disappointed at first, as the smell of the pizzas was so lovely that I had wished I ordered a pie, but when I sat down to eat my salad and smothered-in-butter-and-cheese bread, I was instantly O.K. with my decision. The bread was chocked full of obviously fresh garlic, and though the antipasto salad lacked olives and could have used some more tomatoes and cucumbers and less lettuce, it was still huge in size and full of meats and cheeses. For the economy’s sake, Olivia’s is also now offering a $5 lunch menu from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday.
