Year-round education at Alvirne?

Responding to today’s Learning Curve column about year-round education, a helpful reader pointed out that it was in the 1970s when Alvirne High School in Hudson experimented with this very type of format.
Teresa Stewart, class of 1975, wrote: “Alvirne High School had a year round program in the 70’s. We went year round due to over crowding, the program worked, it was great. In your junior year a student had to take a quarter off and it could not be summer, ( unless the student had enough credits for the junior year) this was also a benefit to employers who would have kids to work in the winter months more.
This program worked , there were many rumors on why they stopped it, one was the teachers union..”
