Indians become Pirates
Filed under Uncategorized by gary fitz at 11:36 am
The former Souhegan Valley Indians have a new name, but it has nothing to do with politcal correctness and everthing to do with new uniform shirts and hats.
Neal Huntington, who grew up in Amherst and played at Milford Area Senior High, donated 26 Pirate game jerseys and new Pirate hats to the Senior Babe Ruth team coached by Souhegan baseball coach and former athletic director Bill Dod.
Huntington, a former Souhegan Valley Indian himself, donated Indians shirts and hats for years while working for the Cleveland Indians. Now he’s the general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates and has continued donating to his old team.
The only logical choice was the changed the name of the team.
