Once again, New Hampshire is home to some of the best boys basketball players in the country in the Class of 2009. And once again, only one is playing in a New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association division.
The top two players are both headed to the No. 1 ranked college team, the University of Connecticut. They are Alex Oriakhi, a 6 foot, 9 inch power forward and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, a 6-7 small forward, who both play at Tilton School.
The talent doesn’t end there. The top five also includes 6-8 Kansas recruit Thomas Robinson, 6-8 Oklahoma recruit Andrew Fitzpatrick and 6-6 Baylor recruit Givon Crumb, who all play at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro.
The lists of the top players in New England and in each New England state are all available at New England Recruiting Report .
The only two New Hampshire public school players to crack the senior class top 30 are Salem guard Josh Jones (27th) and Manchester Central point guard Will Bayliss (30th), neither of whom has committed to a college yet.
Mike Stys, who played at Manchester Central last winter, is 24th on the list. He plays for Proctor Academy and is headed for the other UNH, the University of New Haven.
Brewster, incredibly, has seven of the top 12, including a pair of players headed for the University of Vermont, Luke Apfeld, a 6-7 forward, and Simeon Marsalis, a 6-1 point guard.
Junior Jordan Legeurre of Trinity, perhaps the only Div. I recruit currently playing in Class L, is ranked fifth in the state in the class of 2010.
Brewster will participate in the New Hampton (NH) Invitational next weekend, check out the game schedule at the New Hampton site.
