Who is No. 1 now?

Power rankings can be fun, but they can get blown up quickly in a sport like basketball. Check out Dave Haley’s high school boys rankings this week at NH Sports Page. Haley had Trinity ranked at the top coming off its Sunday afternoon victory over Manchester Memorial and then unbeaten Manchester Central ranked fourth.
Of course, that was before Nashua South upset Central in their own gym on Tuesday and Central went on to beat Trinity at home on Friday night.
Could that mean a Class I school, Pembroke Academy, moves to the No. 1 spot in his next ranking. Oops, the 10-1 Spartans slipped up Friday night in Durham, falling to Oyster River, leaving no unbeaten teams in either Class L or Class I boys basketball.
Meanwhile, Stevens High of Claremont, currently 14th in the poll and unbeaten, escaped Hopkinton on Friday night with a four point victory. Hopkinton is now 2-5, including a pair of losses to unranked Campbell.
So where does that leave 5-3 South, which was unranked and thus below eight teams from lower divisions?
Rankings, of course, are for amusement purposes only. But Haley’s site, as always, is worth checking out.
