Zocco picks URI

Nashua South football standout David Zocco verbally agreed to a football scholarship to the University of Rhode Island during an official visit this weekend.

Zocco won just about every award out there as New Hampshire Player of the Year this fall, including the Gatorade and High School Heisman Award presented by WGAM Radio. He ended his high school career by scoring all five touchdowns in Nashua South’s 33-32 victory over Pinkerton Academy.

Although Zocco was an offensive force in high school, rushing for over 1,500 yards and averaging over seven yards a carry this fall, the 6-foot-1, 205-pounder is projected as an outside linebacker.

The University of New Hampshire was interested in Zocco, but according to both Zocco and South coach Scott Knight they wanted his to “walk on” and earn a scholarship.
