Dead week heats up

Hey, academics comes first, but I’m not really sure why most Class L teams took this Tuesday off when it seems like half the schools have finals either the week before or the week after, with the ice storm changing some schedules.
Anyway, the real fun in Class L boys resumes tonight when all the focus will be on Trinity High School and the battle of unbeatens between surprising Exeter (5-0) and Trinity (4-0).
Yes, it’s safe to say nobody expected Exeter to be unbeaten at this point, including head coach Jeff Holmes. But the fate of the Blue Hawks changed in the off-season when freshman point guard Mike Thorpe moved to Exeter from Fort Myers, Fla.
The New Hampshire Player Rankings web site (http://nhboysbball.blogspot.com/2008/12/class-of-2012-player-rankings.html) currently has Thorpe ranked second among players from the Class of 2012, one behind North point guard Javon Williams.
A Trinity victory would just make Sunday’s 4 p.m. makeup game at cross town rival Memorial (4 p.m.) all the more enticing with Trinity bomber Cormac Fitzpatrick going against father Mike Fitzpatrick’s Crusaders.
Meanwhile, tonight in Milford, Portsmouth senior John Mulvey, whose father coaches the 5-2 Clippers, will be looking for his 1,000 career point against the 6-3 Spartans.
