No Bruins opener for DIRECTV viewers

Posted by george scione

If you’re sitting at home tonight trying hard to get the Bruins’ season opener to appear on your television and it’s nothing but a black screen or snow, you may be one of the unlucky few that get their satellite feed courtesy of DIRECTV.
You might as well just switch to something else, because you no [...]

Boston’s media war heats up with Shaughnessy joining the SportsHub and Mike Reiss leaving the Boston Globe for ESPN-Boston

Posted by george scione

So things got a little more interesting over the last couple of days in the current war between media outlets in Boston.
CBS radio’s The SportsHub, 98.5-FM, scooped up another Boston media celeb by giving Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy a Saturday afternoon radio show.
While that move give the Boston Globe some more exposure, management must [...]

Entercom blocks WGAM from broadcasting Red Sox games

Posted by george scione

Well, for those of you wondering if the Red Sox are still playing baseball, the answer is yes. Of course if you were tuned into 900-AM on the dial here in Greater Nashua, you weren’t too sure about that over the last few days. Frankly, you only missed two innings worth listening to Thursday night [...]

Interesting timing on Entercom’s decision to take Red Sox broadcasts from WRKO and put them all on WEEI

Posted by george scione

Do you feel the heat?
I’m pretty sure WEEI 850-AM is. That’s the only logical reason Entercom has decided to shift what was the majority of Red Sox baseball broadcasts from WRKO 680-AM to WEEI. No, not just the majority, they are shifting every game for the rest of this season to WEEI.
Why? Well according to a [...]

Tarkenton is dead on when saying Favre’s antics are ‘despicable’

Posted by george scione

Fran Tarkenton was already a legend. If he wasn’t, he would be anyways after Tuesday’s radio interview in Atlanta.
The former Minnesota Vikings quarterback has been very outspoken on Brett Favre since his first retirement fiasco. Not only did the Hall of Fame quarterback roast Favre for how he treated the Green Bay Packers after the [...]

CBS radio axes WBCN for all-sports programming

Posted by george scione

So CBS thinks it can accomplish what ESPN just couldn’t do - give Boston sports fans a better alternative than the constant headache-enducing screaches on WEEI 850-AM. Not so sure CBS radio knows what it’s in for, although at least unlike ESPN, “The Sports Hub” will be broadcast on a station people can actually hear - 98.5-FM.
I’m trying to [...]

WGAM gets back in the Red Sox game

Posted by george scione

If you happened to flip the radio dial to 900-AM Friday night, you heard the Red Sox and Rays broadcast.
No, you weren’t hearing things.
It appears Entercom Communications and Absolute Broadcasting are once again on the same page, allowing southern New Hampshire’s local radio stations to provide Red Sox broadcasts to their listeners.
The only question that [...]

Nashua’s Absolute Broadcasting radio station blocked from broadcasting Red Sox games

Posted by george scione

As if having to deal with the NFL Network-Comcast situation isn’t enough, now Absolute Broadcasting is being blocked from broadcasting Red Sox games to the southern New Hampshire market by Entercom Communications.

Absolute Broadcasting, which runs WGAM 1250-AM in Manchester, WGHM 900-AM and WSMN 1590-AM in Nashua, had similar issues earlier in the season before both [...]

Julio Lugo must start at short for Red Sox because of the price tag? I think not

Posted by george scione

Julio Lugo is the Red Sox starting shortstop no matter what.
That is what WEEI’s Pete Shepard, American Defenders of New Hampshiremanager Brian Daubach and Patriots Football Weekly’s Paul Perillo stressed during Thursday’s Big Show broadcast.
With fans calling in one after the other calling for Nick Green to remain on the field, the trio of hosts [...]
