Packing right doesn’t always mean packing light

Filed under Uncategorized by Vanessa at 8:32 pm

I was fortunate enough to take one of the rainiest weeks of the summer off for vacation (note the sarcasm), which really put a cramp in my packing style.

When I pack, I always try to follow the rules of packing one item that can serve purpose in multiple outfits, but this time packing light left me stuck in the cold and somewhat soggy.

Here’s a few pointers on how to pack for the unexpected without going overboard:

n Unless you’re headed to a big city (N.Y., Miami, Vegas, L.A.) leave the trendy items at home. These items usually only work with one or two items and just end up taking up space. Also, some vacation spots just aren’t ready for all that fashion-forward style.

n Pack an extra sweatshirt.

n If you pack a dress, use one that can be dressed up or down and be worn over a pair of pants as a tunic.

n Don’t overload your suitcase with shoes, but make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes, a pair of dress up shoes and something in-between.

n Think layers. The bottom ones can be worn by themselves on hot days or underneath a sweatshirt if it’s colder.

And most importantly, don’t forget the extra underwear.
