Smooth moves

Bare legs, bare backs and barely there bikinis.

All of these things mean there’s no time for unwanted hair or unsightly bumps in the summer.

Everyone has their own preferred method of hair removal. Here are a few products to try no matter how you do the job.

n Bikini Perfect Deluxe – Spa Edition by Bliss

Available at Sephora or online, this cordless, rechargeable trimmer was designed for between waxing upkeep. It comes with six attachments – precision trimmer, precision comb, epilator, micro shaver, micro trimmer and eyebrow comb – a trial size of body butter and body scrub and five ingrown hair eliminating pads packaged together in a travel bag. The kit is shower friendly and retails for $60.

n No!No!

You can buy this flashy gadget at Sephora, Home Shopping Network or Amazon, but it’s going to set you back at least $250. No!No! uses heat to reduce hair density, which means there is some stink factor. The other downside is that it’s not recommended for use on facial hair. The upsides include no in-grown hairs or rashes after removal. Also, it’s supposed to work on all hair types and skin colors. If anyone out there has purchased one of these, I’m curious to know how well it works.

n Depilatories

This one is more of a category, less of a product. I used to think depilatories were a waste of time, and I know several people who refuse to use them because of the odor. Veet, Nair and Sally Hansen have all come out with in-shower versions that would definitely cut down on the time it takes to use this method. Instead of standing around waiting for the products to work, you can now shampoo your hair while waiting, which makes them officially faster than shaving. The individual products cost between $7 and $8.

n Surgi-Wax Brazilian Waxing Kit

For less than $5 at most stores, the kit comes with preparatory oil and application sticks. There are no muslin strips needed, but if you prefer to use them, it does work with them as well and using them makes the waxing slightly less painful. Your skin will stay hair free for longer than shaving or using depilatories – which is a must for summer months. The kit can be found at most drug stores including Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid.

n Bikini Zone After-Shave Treatments

I consider myself lucky not to get irritation from hair removal, but many of my friends who do make sure to keep a bottle of this around. It soothes irritated skin instantly and is a must if your skin will be visible to others. Choose your weapon – cream, gel or pads – for about $7. It can be found in most drugstores.

n St. Ives Apricot Scrub

A good exfoliant is key to keeping ingrown hairs at bay. This one from St. Ives has been around forever and does the job well. It can also be found at most drugstores and retails for between $4 and $5.
