Second time’s the charm
Filed under Uncategorized by Vanessa at 7:14 pm
When I heard the call come over the scanner for a fire in Amherst on June 12, I went through the typical motions: send a reporter, try and find a photographer, keep listening while the reporter’s on the road in case it’s put out.
When the reporter arrived at the scene, my reaction was different than normal though. She told me where she was, and I realized the consignment shop I had just visited to write about in this blog was in the strip mall at 131 Route 101a.
So my first question was, “Is the consignment shop OK?”
I know; strange reaction. Turns out another consignment shop in Amherst Plaza did fall victim to the fire, along with a pizza store and nail salon but Second Time Around is still standing.
Although I feel bad for those who lost their stores, I’m glad this shop remains intact.
The cramped space at the end of the mall doesn’t have many clothes (the store mostly features furniture and other wares), but the store is jam packed with amazing jewelry finds.
There are cases loaded with rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets starting near the door and wrapping around in an L shape toward the opposite wall. One of the cases is filled with items that are 20 percent off, which is where I spotted an amazing find: a sterling silver Thai bracelet with pictures of gods carved into the links.
It was originally marked at $20, but because it was in this case, I only paid $16.
I also picked up a grab bag of jewelry. These were marked between $5 and $9.50 depending on the size and type of jewelry in the bag.
One caveat: You have to spend $20 to use a credit card.
