A hunting we will go

Thrift and consignment shops are filled with name brands, one-of-a-kind finds and unbelievable bargains that would never be found at regular stores.
Lucky you, because Nashua and the surrounding towns are filled with these types of shops just waiting to be explored.
Over the next couple of months, I’m going to try and visit as many as I can and share the highlights of each.
The first on my list, Grey Nuns, doesn’t look like anything special from the factory-like exterior at 25 Marshall St. in Nashua. The inside held a different view though. Boutique style takes over in this multi-room space.
The rooms are organized according to the different clothing selections – infants, teens, women’s and men’s – which makes it much easier to browse. There are also non-clothing items scattered throughout the space.
The biggest thing I noticed was that many of the items were next-to-new.
And another bonus, this is a great place to go if you have a job interview and little money. There’s a large selection of suits, and although some may be a little dated, if you yank out the shoulder pads, add a skinny belt and a frilly blouse, most can be made more modern.
Other great finds include clothing items that have been at the store longer than a month. These are marked down to half price. I found this vest, which was marked down to $2.
It’s little reminiscent of a ref uniform, but I plan on pairing it with some of my brighter dresses and frilly striped blouses this summer.
While I was there, one woman actually mistook another for a worker after the second woman had helped her find some items and gave her some pointers. The second woman’s response: “Oh, I don’t work here. I’m just a frequent shopper.”
And since merchandise is updated frequently, this is the type of place you want to visit often.
The only downfall is that the shop doesn’t have furniture because of the limited space, but the woman behind the counter noted that people looking for specific items, including cribs, can leave their number and the shop will call if the item comes in.
The shop is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Donations to the store are accepted Monday and Tuesday only but the store is so full right now, they are holding off on accepting donations until April 28. The phone number is 883-2850.
If you have any thrift stores you would like me to check out, feel free to post them below, and I will add them to the list.
