Gone today, hair tomorrow

Bald is in, but not everyone can pull off the look with finesse. There are those who are embarrassed by hair loss and those who’s heads are funny shaped and just look better with hair.

I’ve thought about shaving my hair off just to avoid the hassle of bad hair days but I’m afraid I’d fall into the weird shaped head category.

Other’s who don’t have a choice about going bald may be happy to read the following.

I was reading the ever so thrilling Dr. Gott column on the comics pages and found some advice that might be good for those with hair loss.

A reader wrote in saying her husband’s hair is now growing back after using her shampoo and conditioner. He was completely bald on the top of his head and had hair around the sides. The growing back part hasn’t been verified by any other readers yet, but for a few bucks, why not try?

The shampoo and conditioner she uses are from the TRESemme line: Silk Protein Healthy Volume shampoo and Vitamin E for dry or damaged hair for conditioner.

Now he could be growing hair for some other reason, but think about all the fun TRESemme can have with this one if it turns out to be true.

And if anyone tries this and it does work, please let me know.

Have you been naughty or nice?

Vanessa | 24 November, 2007 12:38 | (141)

It's official. The holiday shopping season has begun and I have to say I fall into that former category more often than not. Living life to it's fullest means getting into trouble every now and then. It's a small sacrifice for fun.

But why should good girls be the only one's to get presents. I like to treat all my friends when it comes to presents. After all, being bad is no fun when it's done all alone.

I found these Sue Devitt naughty and nice pallettes that come with two eye shadows, two glosses and an application brush and are small enough to fit in most clutches.

The naughty pallette comes in a red box with silver and white shadows and magenta and fushia glosses. The nice pallette is in a blue box and comes with bronze and beige shadows and two neutral brown glosses. Both have fabulous drawings on the covers to represent each girl.

The pallettes originally retailed for $32 but you can find them online for much cheaper. Discount.makeup.com has them on sale for $18, but if you really want a bargain, try eBay. I paid $2 or less for most of the ones I bought.

So next time your friend (or girlfriend) does something nice for you or naughty with you remember she deserves something chic when it comes to presents.

Dare to go bare

Vanessa | 19 November, 2007 20:07 | (214)

Winter’s almost here, which means bare legs are hiding behind pants, boots and leggings. It’s a great excuse to skip out on shaving your legs, but when you do decide to shave, grab a Preserve razor.

The company uses 100 percent recyclable materials in the handle of the razor, and 65 percent is made from Stonyfield Farm yogurt cups – the two companies formed a partnership in 2001 with the start of the Preserve toothbrush and expanded that partnership in 2004.

Preserve products are sold at several stores in the area, including Shaw’s and Hannafords in Nashua and Shaw’s in Milford and Merrimack. You can also buy products on the Recycline Web site.

When you’re done with that razor, don’t throw it out. Recycline also offers postage-paid labels to return items to the company. (Don’t worry they promise not to use it in future products, but instead, turn it into plastic lumber.)

It's a good time to think about bundling up

Vanessa | 14 November, 2007 00:12 | (163)

One of my co-workers recently found out there’s a Burlington Coat Factory at 51 Gusabel Ave. in Nashua, just off of Exit 6 on the F.E. Everett Turnpike. He was excited because he’s in the market for a new winter coat and lucky for him, he couldn’t have picked a better time.

Sure, he could shop at Burlington Coat Factory but there’s a few other stores in the area with outerwear sales going on this week, which means he’s sure to find a bargain.

Old Navy is having an outerwear sale with 40 percent off all coats this week. (Old Navy is at 4 E. Spit Brook Road in Nashua.) Kohl’s is also having an outerwear sale (the store’s in the same plaza as Burlington Coat Factory) with 40-50 percent off.

Target (in the Pheasant Lane Mall) has also joined the sales bandwagon, offering mark downs on selected men’s jackets.

Sites worth watching

Vanessa | 09 November, 2007 01:41 | (163)

Did someone say sample sale? Unless you live in a big city (and I’m not talking about Nashua), the chances of finding a sample sale in your neighborhood are slim to none, but don’t worry.

Yoox.com brings the sample sale to the comfort of your living room (but hurry, it only lasts through Monday).

I know what you’re thinking: no lines, no stripping down to your skivvies in front of complete strangers and no having an item snatched from your grip, where’s the fun in that?

Yoox even organizes items by price, designer, category, size or color, making it a breeze to find that perfect piece you might spend hours looking for in the stores.

Another great site offering up vintage pieces is riceandbeansvintage. The site is an eclectic mix of styles, decades and designers. And if you really like the challenge of a good hunt, then click on the auction link. You may not be able to pry a find from another person’s hand in the physical sense, but mentally, it still feels the same.

Not everything’s a steal on these sites, but you can find some great deals, and because of the unique samplings, there’s always something new so make sure to check back often.

Make a splash

Vanessa | 06 November, 2007 15:38 | (126)

I hate rainy days. It’s hard to crawl out of bed knowing you’re going to have a bad hair day no matter what you do and are doomed to spend a portion of your day in soggy clothes.

When the rain hits though, I find nothing cheers me up more than knowing I get to drag my galoshes out of the closet. The bright pattern adds a splash of color to the gray day and knowing that I can splash through several inches of water without getting my feet wet somehow makes me feel powerful (and slightly like I’m a kid again).

For some cool rain boots at a decent price check out Famous Footwear at 266 Daniel Webster Highway in Nashua. Here’s my favorite pair.

And once you have a pair, you just may find yourself looking forward to the next rainy day.
