Manny sits

He may have had a short day Sunday, thanks to his second-inning ejection, but Manny Ramirez will still get his scheduled day off today.

"If it's the right thing to do, it's the right thing to do,'' Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "It will be good for him."

With Jason Varitek suffering from flu-like symptoms, it's a makeshift lineup for the Red Sox against Texas in their 11 a.m. start. Kevin Cash will catch, Joe Thurston will play left field, Jed Lowrie will play third and Kevin Youkilis goes back to first.

Coco Crisp's sore hamstring is still bothering so he won't be in today, as Francona had hoped.
