Pedroia is AL Rookie of the Year

To the surprise of no one but, perhaps, Delmon Young's family and friends, Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was a landslide winner in voting by the Baseball Writers Association of America for the American League Rookie of the Year award.

Voting for the honor ends with the regular season, meaning Pedroia's playoff and World Series heroics diddn't even factor into it. Pedroia received 24 first-place votes to four for Young, the Devil Rays outfielder.

Now Red Sox fans can focus on Tuesday's Cy Young Award announcement. Josh Beckett and Cleveland's C.C. Sabathia are considered the co-favorites for the AL honors.
