Alan | 06 November, 2007 16:22 | (211)

First baseman Kevin Youkilis was announced Tuesday as an American League Gold Glove recipient for 2007. Also on Tuesday, as expected, arthroscopic surgery was performed on David Ortiz's right knee.

Youkilis is the first Red Sox first baseman to receivea Gold Glove since George Scott, who won in 1967, 1968 and 1971.

Ortiz's surgery to repair cartilage damage, performed by team Medical Director Dr. Thomas Gill, went well, and Ortiz will begin rehabilitation immediately. The surgery should not interfere with his off-season program, and he is expected to be ready for full participation in spring training.
