No Youk ... no kidding?

Earlier this week, Terry Francona responded "Yeah, sure" when asked if he could play David Ortiz in all three games at Coors Field this weekend. So why would anyone be surprised that Ortiz is playing first base tonight, with Mike Lowell at third and Kevin Youkilis the odd man out?

There really is no logical debate here. Ortiz is one of the most prolific post-season hitters in recent history; Lowell is a Gold Glove third baseman and in the midst of an MVP-caliber season.

Youkilis is a decent first baseman (yes, decent; fielding percentage does not measure range) and a reliable singles/doubles hitter who comes into the weekend on a hot streak.

Finally, Josh Fogg is pitching for Colorado tonight. Ortiz vs, Fogg at Coors Field could results in about 1,300 feet worth of line drives.

And, now they have a solid player like Youkilis who can come off the bench.

Anyone bashing Francona over this needs to step back, take a deep breath and get a grip.
