Those battling Red Sox
Filed under Red Sox, player personnel by alan greenwood at 2:43 pm
Ah, just when we arrived to bury them after their worst week in memory, the Red Sox roar back and beat the Tigers twice. And not only have they cooled a hot team, they let loose with some emotion.
Kevin Youkilis charges the mound, sufficiently startling the daylights out of Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello that the kid backpedals away like a frightened schoolgirl. Terry Francona gets ejected and flings his wad of gum from second base to Jamaica Plain. Don Orsillo and Dennis Eckersley debate Porcello’s intentions.
And in baseball news, Jason Bay jumped on the first fastball he saw and hit it over everything in left for a three-run homer, just like he used to do all those weeks ago. Mike Lowell smacked two home runs and seemed like a man on a mission to get his everyday job back.
And Youkilis does have a reason for being mad as hell at AL pitchers and not wanting to take it anymore.
