Report: Red Sox, Matsuzaka at odds

Daisuke Matsuzaka apparently unloaded his frustrations over what so far has been a lost season to a Japanese reporter, blaming the Red Sox for failing to respect the conditioning program he used while throwing in Japan.

Matsuzaka has been on the disabled list for most of the season and was largely ineffective in his eight starts, going 1-5 with an 8.23 ERA.,

“If I’m forced to continue to train in this environment, I may no longer be able to pitch like I did in Japan,” Matsuzaka told the Japanese media outlet allatanys.co. “The only reason why I managed to win games during the first and second years (in the U.S.) was because I used the savings of the shoulder I built up in Japan. Since I came to the Major Leagues, I couldn’t train in my own way, so now I’ve lost all those savings.”

“For this to come out as it has - I mean, we recognize there are differences and we’ve worked diligently and thoroughly to bridge that gap. For them to come out as they have is, in a word, disappointing,” Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell told The Boston Herald.
